About Our Club

"We Invest in the future of our community" - Kiwanis Club of Greater Plano Mission

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Plano is a non-profit organization that has been serving local communities since 1984. It is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization that “Empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children”. This Club is a thriving organization of service-minded men and women of all ages who enjoy social fellowship and respond to the unique needs of their communities and address worldwide issues by “Changing the world, one child and one community at a time”.

Since 2002 the Club has presented an Annual Butterfly Festival. Families and students can observe butterflies flying in their natural setting. This educational and philanthropic event raises money for children’s charities in our local community.

The Club has established a family of service programs designed to support the children and young adults of our communities and overseas at many levels. Funds are donated for baby food to the Plano Food Pantry and for child health care to the Children’s Miracle Network and Juvenile Diabetes. Locally the Club sponsors Shepton, Lovejoy, Liberty, Independence and Heritage High Schools where students provide service to their community. Scholarships are provided to local high school graduates and college students. In addition, our Club supports Special Olympics and Kid-netic Games in their efforts to meet the needs of the physically and mentally challenged members of our communities. We established the Greater Plano 501c3 Foundation to assist the club in our fundraising activities.

Internationally the Club donated a computer and projector for a Nicaraguan Orphanage and sponsors local teachers to work with Jamaican teachers to improve their skills and establish libraries.

Kiwanis International’s current effort is the ELIMINATE program. Our Club’s $6,000 pledge assists UNICEF to immunize mothers & babies worldwide against maternal & neonatal tetanus. The Club also contributions to the KI Foundation which helps meet the needs of children and provides disaster relief to victims of hardships in the United States and worldwide.
